Charleston, SC

We were nine years of age as we watched the civil rights struggle in the USA.  We are the children who witnessed church burnings as our parents and grandparents struggled for our freedoms and opportunity.

We met in college carrying the hopes of generations before us.  Who would have thought that any one of us would be murdered while teaching Bible study?  The gates of hell opened up, reached inside the church building, and struck you down.

Fifty years later, we find ourselves approaching old age and enjoined in the ongoing struggle. My heart breaks for you Myra Singleton Thompson, my dear classmate.

Your life’s legacy is inextricably bound to our commitment and resolve for civil rights in our nation.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 5:10
