A Lenten Season Reflection

Jesus answers the call upon his life as he turns toward Jerusalem for the third and final time.  In Luke 9:51ff we note his resolve to face all that would transpire as his time of departure drew near.

How will we respond to a faith that requires entire self-surrender as modeled by our Christ?  Are we willing to follow Jesus and risk being unpopular, suffer abandonment by our loved ones or risk being homeless?

We hold in high esteen the faithful who model this kind of self-denial.  We adore M.L. King Jr. and Mother Theresa, all who are the champions of our faith.  Yet we know that each believer holds within their grasp a “pearl of great price.”

At the end of my life I pray that there will be demonstrations of sacrificial faith in action.  May there be found evidences that my allegiance to the faith was stronger than the urgency of self-preservation.
